Dry Needling
Did you know that dry needling can help reduce swelling, decrease pain, and improve healing? Dry Needling is a valuable treatment for musculoskeletal pain!
What is dry needling?
Dry Needling is a skilled intervention that uses a thin filiform needle to penetrate the skin and stimulate underlying myofascial trigger points, muscular, and connective tissues for management of neuromusculoskeletal pain and movement impairments.
Dry Needling is used to treat dysfunctions in skeletal muscle, fascia, and connective tissue, and, diminish persistent peripheral nociceptive input and reduce or restore impairments of body structure and function leading to improved activity and participation.
Why do we needle?
In most studies, its equivalent to a trigger point injection
Helps abnormal muscle activation patterns
Mechanical transduction is elicited (especially with needle rotations)
Changes local circulation
Increased circulation in nearby joint
Collagen proliferation
Relieves pain
May help tendinopathy
Anti-inflammatory effects
Immediate changes in ROM, strength and muscle thickness
Great for recovery!
